Meet Scorpion

Here are the details for this mode. The tableau has seven columns. Scorpion on zzhtsteel.com uses one 52-card deck with four suits. Moves build down in the same suit rather than allowing cross-suit destinations. Four complete King-to-Ace runs clear the game.

The initial seven columns

The following details apply here. All cards in the last three columns are face up. The first three cards in each of the first four columns are face down. Three cards remain in the stock. Each opening column contains seven cards for a total of 49 tableau cards.

Check rank and suit together

Keep these points in mind. A moved group's leading card must land on a card exactly one rank higher in the same suit. A seven of hearts can land on an exposed eight of hearts. A seven of hearts cannot land on an eight of spades. A King cannot land on another card because no higher rank exists.

Move exposed groups

The selected cards do not need to descend in rank to travel together. The selected cards do not need to share a suit to travel together. Any face-up card can be selected together with every card beneath it. The leading selected card still has to meet the destination rule.

The empty-column rule

A few details help explain this feature. Cards beneath a moved King do not need to be in sequence. A group led by a lower rank cannot enter an empty column. An empty column is therefore less flexible than an empty column in ordinary Spider. An empty column accepts a King or a group led by a King.

Uncover another choice

Here are the details for this mode. An exposed card can carry the cards beneath it when its own destination is legal. The next hidden card is revealed automatically. Removing all face-up cards above a hidden card turns that hidden card face up. Undo restores the earlier hidden-card arrangement when the move is reversed.

The final three cards

This Scorpion version permits its stock deal when columns are empty. The stock contains one final deal of three cards. There are no further stock cards after the three-card deal. Dealing places a face-up card on each of the first three columns.

Complete a suit

Keep these points in mind. All thirteen cards in a collected run must be face up. The game removes a qualifying run automatically from the bottom of a column. A completed run must descend from King to Ace in one suit. Moving an unordered group does not make that group a completed sequence.

Plan around blocked cards

Checking the whole moved group helps you anticipate what will become blocked. A move can carry unwanted cards along with a useful leading card. Hint lists legal choices without promising a winning continuation. Replay and Undo let you explore another approach to the same layout.
